Dr. Novo
ANDREW R. NOVO is a Professor of Strategic Studies at the National Defense University, Washington, D.C. AS an expert in ancient and modern European history and strategic studies, Dr. Novo regularly lectures at Johns Hopkins University’s graduate program in Global Security Studies, and serves as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service. In addition, he is a Senior Fellow in the Transatlantic Defense and Security Program at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA), also in Washington, DC.

His published works include: Where the Mountains Burn - A novel of WWII Italy, The EOKA Cause - Nationalism and the Failure of Cypriot Enosis, Restoring Thucydides - Testing familiar lessons and deriving new ones with Dr. Jay Parker, When Small Countries Crash with Scott MacDonald, and the popular historical novel Queen of Cities – 1453 An Army is Marching.
A regular contributor to the international think tank and conference circuits, he has presented at the Brookings Institution, the Atlantic Council, the European Institute of the Mediterranean, Policy Forum Armenia, and the Delphi Economic Conference in Greece.
Dr. Novo lectures widely in Europe and the United States, including at the University of Oxford, NATO Defense College (Rome), the University of Torino (Turin), the University of Macedonia (Thessaloniki), the United States Military Academy (West Point), the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis) and The Sorbonne (Paris).
His work also includes special projects on international security and national strategy for the government of Georgia and the government of Greece, the Post Conflict Operations Study Centre of the Italian Army in Turin, the 28th Reggimento “Pavia” in Pesaro, and the Institut de Recherche Stratégique de l’Ecole Militaire in Paris.
Dr. Novo holds an A.B. in classical history from Princeton University, and two graduate degrees from the University of Oxford in England: an M.Phil in international relations and a D.Phil in modern history.
He is fluent in French and Modern Greek, and is conversant in Italian.
He resides in Maryland with his wife and two sons.
